Once upon a time there was a miser1. He hid his gold under a tree. Every week he used to dig it up.

One night a robber2 stole all the gold. When the miser came again, he found nothing but an empty hole.

He was surprised, and then burst into tears. All the neighbors gathered around him.

He told them how he used to come and visit his gold.

"Did you ever take any of it out?" asked one of them. "No," he said, "I only came to look at it." "Then come again and look at the hole," said the neighbor, "it will be the same as looking at the gold."

This slender volume opens with the story of Beniah, an infant rescued by sanitation workers from the stack of garbage in which he had been left to die. Without ever losing sight of Beniah and the too many other deserted children, the author, Sharon Emecz, tells the story of the two homes for abandoned children, Happy Life Kasarani and Happy Life Juja Farm, organized in the area of Nairobi, Kenya.

Developed more than a decade ago by two indomitable couples, Sharon and Jim Powell from Delaware in the USA, and Faith and Peter Kamau from Nairobi, the two settings provide the physical and emotional comforts that would otherwise have been denied the 102 abandoned children now living there, as well as having nurtured the many more who have found adoptive homes. More than that even, the two homes have literally saved the lives of all those children.

The book provides detail of the structure and functioning of The Happy Life homes allowing for an appreciation of their organization (as well as a pattern for their replication), and provides as well brief portraits of some of the children saved, of those adults who have opted to share a part of their lives with them whether through work or volunteering, and the adoptive parents who have pledged to share their homes and their love with the children who have become their own. Ms. Emecz gives the reader a real sense of the spiritual journey she has undergone in traveling from London to Nairobi, a journey she and her husband, Steve, now make at least annually.

Women make better business leaders than men in all but two areas of management, but men have the upper hand when it comes to focusing on the bottom line, according to an Australian survey released on Monday.

Data collected from 1,800 Australian female and male chief executive officers and managers found women exhibit more strategic drive, risk taking, people skills and innovation, and equaled men in the area of emotional stability.

But men came out on top when it came to command and control of management operations and focusing on financial returns.

The survey, conducted for the Steps Leadership Program by employment consultancy firm Peter Berry Consultancy, found women were more likely to take a chance with their ideas and challenge the status quo.

"Women are ambitious, bold, mischievous, colorful and imaginative. They are more confident, competitive, visionary and have a stronger presence," Gillian O'Mara, general manager of the Steps Leadership Program, said in a statement.

But the survey found that men were more task focused and concentrated on getting the job done rather than dealing with relationships.

"(Men believe that) that bottom line dollars are the only game in town. Their key motives and preferences in life appear to be around revenue, budgets and profit. At work and at home, they are driven by financial opportunities," said O'Mara.

"Men are task focused and concentrate on getting the job done without bothering too much with relationships. They are more comfortable with hierarchies, title silos and processes."

The results of the survey, which was based on an international research-based personality test called the Hogan Assessment System used by organizations to select employees, will be presented at a female leadership seminar in Sydney on May 14.

Donny is my little brother. He is a naughty1 boy.

On Sunday morning Donny went into the yard and played with a dog. Sometimes a bird would come down to stay on the top's of the dog's house. Then Donny threw a stone at it. Suddenly the little boy began crying. Mother ran to Donny and asked him what was wrong. He said, "I've broken2 sister's plate. She has beaten me." "Why?" "I threw it at a bird, and it went straight to the plate."

Such was my naughty brother.

I stand on the edge of the dance floor watching couples glide, spin, and groove as they dance the West Coast Swing. The tempo of the music is fast, but the beating of my heart is faster. I want to dance, but I'm afraid I'm not good enough.

The song ends, and as another begins, a white-haired gentleman with a rakish smile offers me his hand and pulls me onto the floor, waving away my protests that I'm only a beginner.

Okay. If he can do this, so can I.

I manage to find a respectable groove, but whenever he tries to lead me in anything other than the basic steps, I stumble. All I can do is smile a lot and apologize even more.

After I've mumbled sorry for the tenth time, he laughs and says, "It's okay. You're blonde."

Huh? It's delivered like a compliment, and I decide to take it as one; if I can't be graceful, I can at least be gracious. But later, after the shoes have come off and I'm in my own quiet room, his words keep dancing through my head. They start wearing a different kind of groove, leading to questions like:

Do I act blonde? If you believe the stereotype, blondes are assumed to be helpless, shallow, unambitious or naive. Now I know these traits have nothing to do with hair color. Still, something in this idea strikes a nerve.

Why do I apologize so much? In what ways do I minimize myself and my efforts?

How seriously do I take myself?

In an effort to answer these questions, I promptly dye my hair brown and begin collecting data. I discover that I feel plainer, duller, and more average with darker hair. I also feel more thoughtful, more discerning, more earnest. In the words of Oscar Wilde, "Life is too important to be taken seriously."

I suspect that what I want is not to be taken seriously, but to feel important. I forget about my hair color and focus instead on the ways I matter. And I define which things matter most to me.

As a result of my burgeoning self-importance, I am better able to recognize those around me who sincerely support me.

Based on my (admittedly unscientific) findings, here’s how you too can identify the people in your life who believe you are important:

They listen when you talk.

They don't laugh when you tell them a wild idea.

They seek you out for advice.

When they introduce you to someone, they make a point of saying what you do or mentioning your passion.

They understand that we're all learning, so they patiently encourage you to begin again, and again, and again.

They don't mind when you occasionally step on their toes.

They love you no matter what you look like.

Back on the dance floor, the same man grabs me again. Three months have passed and I have advanced. I finally know the steps and can hold my own.

"Okay, now you've got to work it," he says. "Give me some attitude."

I smile, not missing a beat. He's right. This is seriously fun.

We always convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, thenanother. Then we are frustrated that the kids arent old enough and well be more content whenthey are. After that we re frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly behappy when they are out of that stage.

We always tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her acttogether, when we get a nicer car, and are able to go on a nice vacation, when we retire. Thetruth is, theres no better time than right now. If not now, when? Our life will always be filledwith challenges. Its best to admit this to ourselves and decide to be happy anyway.

One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred Souza. He said, "For a long time it had seemed tome that life was about to begin-real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, someunfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last itdawned onto me that these obstacles were my life. This perspective has helped me to see thatthere is no way to happiness.

Happiness is the way. So treasure every moment that you have. And remember that time waits for no one. So stop waiting until you finish school, until you goback to school; until you get married, until you get divorced; until you have kids, until your kidsleave home; until you start work, until you retire; until you get a new car or home; untilspring; until you are born again to decide that there is no better time than right now to behappy.。.。

Happiness is a journey, not a destination. So,Work like you dont need money,

幸福是一个旅程,不是终点站;所以工作吧,如同不需要金钱一样;

Love like youve never been hurt,And dance like no ones watching.

to love, like never been hurt,to dance,like no one appreciate;

to sing, like no one listen to,to work, like no need of money;

to life, like today is the end.

The Internet is becoming more and more popular in China, where 123 million users were counted by the end of June, second in the world only to the United States.

The fast growth of Internet has become a spotlight in China's information and communications industries, said Vice Minister of Ministry of Information Industry Jiang Yaoping on Thursday.

Jiang told a national meeting on Internet that the country's increasing netizens prompted the rapid development of Internet related technologies in China.

The number of broadband users reached 77 million and there are currently 788,000 websites in the country, according to Jiang.

Despite its second place in the world list, Internet penetration is actually relatively weak per capita in the country of 1.3 billion people.

Jiang said Internet has played an increasingly important role in promoting China's economic development and improving people's life quality.

Meanwhile, he said China is stepping up efforts in supervising the Internet. With the wide use of Internet in the country, his ministry has already shifted focus from ensuring information and network safety to protecting intellectual property rights, consumers' rights and privacy and business secrets.

A series of rules and regulations have been worked out in this regard, including the Internet Safety Emergency Plan, he noted.
